2017 Capital Region MARCOM Awards Event Recap

November 16, marketing and communications professionals from across the region came together to celebrate a year’s worth of significant accomplishments.

The annual MARCOM Awards offered the opportunity to recognize important campaigns, well-designed websites, and successful publications, and to celebrate the industry we love.

This marked the second year in a row that the Capital Region chapters of the American Marketing Association and the Public Relations Society of America have joined forces to present awards. The shift only made sense, says Alan Baker, President of the American Marketing Association – New York Capital Region Chapter. In today’s marketplace, the two fields work together so closely, and often, it’s hard to see where one job ends, and the other begins.

The ceremony took place at the GE Theatre of Proctors in downtown Schenectady. Guests enjoyed dinner by Mazzone Hospitality and then gathered together to see individual awards presented. The ceremony was emceed by award-winning comedian, Greg Aidala.

MARCOM also named a Marketer/Communicator of the Year, Pamela J. Clarke, at Doane Stuart, and Marketing/Communications Practitioner of the Year, Joseph Brennan, Ph.D., APR, who serves as VP of Communications and Marketing at University at Albany, SUNY.

“In order to be considered for the Practitioner of the Year Award, you have to achieve high levels of success in the communications and marketing field and you also have to uphold the highest level of ethics,” said Joshua Poupore, President of the Capital Region chapter of PRSA. “When we sat down to think of the next person deserving of this award, it was a no brainer: we nominated Joe [Brennan] without even giving it a second thought."
